MEDIA ALERT

22 November 2018

The Treatment Action Campaign in Limpopo, is shocked by the violence and crime that is currently becoming a trend targeted towards public health care facilities in Limpopo, this is totally unacceptable and we condemn such criminal activities as well as all forms of violence. Such lack of respect for human rights should never be allowed to continue anywhere in our province or country.

We call upon the MEC of Health in Limpopo to ensure that security service providers in public health care institution are capable of delivering maximum protection to both employees, and patients in all health facilities and properties. If such acts continues to continue, this might lead to Health Professionals leaving the public health and seek employment where they might feel safe and secured. We also urge the MEC together with the SAPS to assure citizens that there is a carefully considered plan to ensure safety and security in all health facilities. We also call upon the SAPS and any other state security and justice agencies to utilize all their expertise to ensure that criminals are caught, and brought to justice.

We urge surrounding community members to remain vigilant and cooperate with government protection services in reporting any acts of criminal nature and violence.

We wish a speedy recovery to the health professionals that have been shot and injured during robbery at Letaba hospital doctor’s residence.
