TAC not attending SACP’s “Conference of the Left”

Johannesburg, 27 May 2026 – The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) will not be attending the “Conference of the Left”, being convened by the South African Communist Party (SACP).

An invitation was sent to TAC on 4 May 2026 to attend the event. Before we responded, our name had already been included among the participating organisations on the conference website. On 25 May 2026 we wrote to the conference organisers to decline the invitation and request that our name be removed from the website. Unfortunately no response was received from the organisers and our name remains on the website to date.

As TAC we are therefore compelled to publicly distance ourselves from the “Conference of the Left”, and continue to request that our name be removed. As always, TAC remains independent from any political parties and our primary responsibility remains to serve the interests of our members and other users of the public healthcare system.
