GENDER BASED VIOLENCE STILL A CHALLENGE

TAC Branch members marching against GBV

Gender based violence (GBV) is about violation of human rights, and it is becoming a serious issue in our environment. It affect both female and male.
Since Willowfontein is semi-rural so many people still believe in cultural things, so human right is something new to them. When we were doing GBV training we found that many people are not aware of a GBV. Most of people are experiencing some sort of violence in their homes but are unaware. They don’t have information on how to report the relevant cases to SAPS (South African Police Services).
I think our Government is still failing us as South Africans since people are still being victims of GBV, so there is a need of more awareness campaigns about GBV. Also involvement of Traditional Leaders, Traditional Healer and also ward counselors is crucial in our communities.
