Dismissed Khayelitsha Health Workers
On 11 June 2007, 41 workers at clinics in Khayelitsha were dismissed during a strike. The TAC and five patients filed an urgent application with the Cape High Court. They sought a court order that the state had to take measures to restore functioning health services in Khayelitsha and that the workers had to be reinstated. On 26 June Judge Desai ordered the "respondents to restore and guarantee the provision of reasonably functioning health services in Khayelitsha including emergency, chronic, child and reproductive health services." He awarded costs to the Applicants.
