Resources for Health Campaign
The Resources for Health campaign is focused on meeting the NSP targets for HIV/TB prevention and treatment by 2011 by providing additional resources for health.
The NSP aims to accomplish the following goals by 2011:
- Reach 95% of women through prevention-of-mother-to-child-transmission (PMTCT) services
- Treat 80% of people in need of antiretroviral therapy (ART)
- Reduce by 50% new HIV infections
Currently the percentage of people being provided for in treatment and prevention efforts are far below these targets. In response to this, the Resources for Health campaign objectives are:
- To demand early treatment of infants, dual protocols and essential medical supplies for PMTCT
- To treat at a CD4 count of 350, rather than 200 and eradicate ARV waiting lists
- To fight for integration of TB/HIV treatments
This will require a strictly enforced, needs-based budget and a comprehensive solution to the current human resources crisis in health care-(nurses and health practitioners are understaffed and often inadequately trained).
In July 2009 TAC hosted a march to call attention to these issues
